Time to create a Mother's Day that will make YOU happy and help you feel celebrated!
Let's and stop the fantasy of expecting everyone to be a mind-reader. No one wins in that scenario.
Get Yourself Some Flowers. Pick some from a field nearby. Do whatever it takes to APPRECIATE YOURSELF!
That way, if they family does something - it's EXTRA.
Kids aren't necessarily going to think about What To Do For Mom until they're older - if then!
Sure, it would be nice... but let's not hang all our hopes on that.
And, if they've forgotten, or you're sad, they'll feel badly later.
This kind of modeling will help the kids see what COULD be easily done - and it will help you with your own mindset about it all. Social media is full of highlight reels when someone is having a FABULOUS Mother's Day. Don't let that get you down. Create your own! (and maybe stay off the 'Gram until Mother's Day is over!)
Regardless of whether or not your family shows their appreciation for you this Mother’s Day, remember a few things:
We all know it comes from the greeting card world, right?
And even the woman who invented the concept had NO intention of having it turn into what it has today!
They love you, even if they don’t come through on this designated day. Steer clear of Instagram and all social media today. Even those who have a “meh” Mother’s Day manage to post about it in a way that can really seem waaaay better than it was. You don’t need that!
We feel better when we shift from scarcity to abundance.
Reframe from getting/receiving, to realizing what you already have. What happy mommy memories can you recall?
Some mothers have way more time with their kids than in years past. One 17-year-old in this article said, “It’s almost like you scripted this..." Ha!
The Pandemic Offers Mothers Something They Will Never Have Again
Remember 2020 Mother's Day?
If your mom wasn’t that great, now’s the time to focus on other ways to be mothered. Aunts, friends, even mothering yourself!

Celebrating Mothers Day with the “Not-So-Perfect” Mom
Sometimes we can feel a little hard on ourselves as moms. As I was writing the Mother's Day podcast for this year, I found quite a few TV and Movie "moms" who are, frankly, awful. Maybe you'd like to be reminded of what "bad momming" can look like!? 🤣
Here's my list that I'm calling:
I've been sharing memes on the weeks leading up to Mother's Day for... a long time. Since we're Unschooling Mom2Mom, that seems like OUR DAY!
They're meant to be funny, maybe insightful, maybe reassuring.
But as I was putting all the Mother's Day memes up, I realized we have a lot that focus on motherhood in general. So I separated those off. They're under this batch of Mother's Day memes.
Feel free to pin them or share onto your own platforms. Most I didn't make myself, but I've always been a collecter - of things, of people, and even of memes! Would love it if you have the opportunity to mention Unschooling Mom2Mom or take your friends back to this link! Much appreciation!
Sue Patterson shares 25 years of unschooling experience in a variety of ways. She's on a mission to help you see that you have really great options when it comes to educating and living with your kids. And it doesn't have to look like school at all!
I love helping parents figure out how to make unschooling work! That often includes learning to parent in a way that's different from how we were raised. But we have choices - we don't have to duplicate anything just because it's familiar!
Every family is different - that's the beauty of really individualizing a plan and being intentional with our families.
Whether it's talking on the phone privately or joining my membership - you don't have to do this alone!
